  • 2020 was a challenging year for everyone, and these challenges were met with changes to the tax code that will alter the verification and conflicting information review process. We’ll start this webinar with a quick overview of 2022-2023 verification, which is not too different from 2021-2022 verification. But for the bulk of the webinar, we will look at what makes 2020 different from other years. We’ll start with a review of the 2020 tax return – to find the FAFSA data elements, figure out whether or not we need Schedules 1, 2, and/or 3, and look at the grossly inadequate “Did you file a Schedule 1?” question. Then we’ll look at changes to the tax code that may trigger an increase in the work we need to do – tax-exempt unemployment compensation, the repeal of the premium tax credit repayments, and Coronavirus Related Distributions (which will be the basis for many appeals).
